School Board Schedules Board Governance Training Thursday, November 10 -November 8, 2011
The Pickens County Board of Education will participate in state mandated Board Governance Training "Board Roles and responsibilities" on Thursday, November 10, at 3:00 p.m. Attorney Phil Hartley of Harben, Hartley, and Hawkins will present the training for our board members through Georgia School Boards Association. No action will be taken at this workshop. This meeting will be held at the Pickens County Schools Central Office, Conference Room 403, 100 D.B. Carroll Street in Jasper. As always, the public and employees are invited to attend.

School Board Schedules Called Board Meeting Wednesday, October 5th-October 4, 2011
The Pickens County Board of Education will conduct a called board meeting on Wednesday, October 5th, at 7:00 p.m. The board is expected to meet in executive session to discuss and meet with legal counsel pertaining to pending or potential litigation.    
This meeting will be held at the Board Conference Center on D.B. Carroll Street in Jasper. As always, the public and employees are invited to attend.

Local School Board Members Work to Ensure Educational Quality-September 12, 2011
Members of the Pickens County Board of Education were recently recognized for successfully completing board member training activities sponsored by the Georgia School Boards Association and Pioneer RESA.  Receiving certificates of recognition at the September 8, 2011 meeting of the board were members:  Chair Wendy D. Lowe, Vice-Chair Byron Long, John Trammell, Dan Fincher, and Ervin Easterwood.

Georgia was among the first states in the nation to require that local school board members receive training to ensure quality educational leadership.  Board members receive training on topics such as: Georgia’s Quality basic Education Act (QBE), budgeting and financing, legal and policy issues, school and community relations, and the roles and responsibilities of the school board.

By participating in training and board development activities, local school board members show their dedication to improving the educational system for the students within their communities,” said Jeannie M. (Sis) Henry, GSBA executive director.  “Life-long learning doesn’t just apply to our students; it applies to all of us-especially to those in a leadership role in public education.”

School Board Schedules a Finance Workshop and Called Board Meeting Tuesday, August 30-August 26, 2011
The Pickens County Board of Education will conduct a finance workshop on Tuesday, August 30, at 7:00 p.m. followed by a called board meeting.   The board is expected to discuss elements of the FY12 budget in the finance workshop.  The board is expected to tentatively approve the 2011 millage rate and tentatively approve an FY12 tentative budget.

School Board Schedules Called Board Meeting Tuesday, June 21, 2011-June 17, 2011
The Pickens County Board of Education will conduct a called board meeting on Tuesday, June 21, at 7:00 p.m. The board is expected to approve a spending resolution, a class size resolution, hold a facilities discussion, discuss a matter involving the disclosure of personally identifiable information from a student’s educational records and/or discuss potential litigation with the school board attorney in executive session, and approve the superintendent’s personnel recommendations. School Board Retreat at Brasstown Valley-January 6, 2011 The Pickens County Board of Education will hold a planning retreat on January 7, beginning at 4:45 p.m. and continuing through 12:00 p.m., January 8, 2011. This retreat will be for planning purposes only, and the board will not vote or take any official action. The retreat will be held at Brasstown Valley, 6321 US Highway 76, Blairsville, Georgia.

School Board Postpones January 13, 2011 School Board Meeting -January 11, 2011 The Pickens County Board of Education has postponed the regularly scheduled January 13, 2011 board meeting to Thursday, January 20, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. The reason for postponing is due to the recent inclement weather and icy road conditions. This Meeting will be held at the Board Conference Center on D.B. Carroll Street, Jasper, GA 30143. As always, the public and employees are invited to attend.
